NRC Funding

The UO’s National Resource Center for East Asian Studies (NRC) offers funding opportunities and support to its faculty and students in five areas: public conferences and workshops;  invitation of visiting scholars and guest lecturers; program development travel grants for faculty; professional development travel grants for language instructors; and FLAS Fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students.  Please see the funding deadlines and details below.

JEREMIAH/NRC  PUBLIC LECTURES
: Proposals will be accepted for speakers to visit the UO and deliver a public lecture on campus. We have funds to pay most expenses associated with the lecture, including honorarium, travel, publicity, reception, etc. The visitors must lecture on a topic related to East Asia and be relevant to a public audience. This deadline is for proposals to bring speakers in winter or spring terms of this academic year.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND AREA STUDIES (FLAS) FELLOWSHIPS: CAPS will administer the US Department of Education Academic Year and Summer Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships in East Asian Studies. These fellowships cover tuition and fees and provide a living stipend. They are open to UO students who are US citizens and permanent residents studying Chinese, Japanese, and Korean in conjunction with area/international studies.>

NRC FACULTY TRAVEL GRANTS TO EAST ASIA: The University of Oregon’s National Resource Center for East Asian Studies is offering travel awards of up to $2,000 in support of program development activities with institutions in East Asia. UO faculty and staff engaged in East Asian program building are eligible to apply. These travel awards are not intended for research; applicants must articulate how the proposed travel will enhance program development.

NRC LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR TRAVEL GRANTS: The University of Oregon’s National Resource Center for East Asian Studies is offering travel awards of up to $800 in support of the professional activities of its instructors of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Travel can be used to present at professional conferences, attend pedagogy workshops, or conduct site visits to other campuses.

NRC CONFERENCE: The new National Resource Center (NRC) for East Asian Studies at the UO seeks proposals from UO faculty for annual public conferences related to the theme of the grant “National and Transnational East Asia.” Conferences must be open to the public.  The Center will provide up to $10,000 for travel, lodging, etc., as well as logistical support. This deadline is for proposals for conferences to be held during the 2011-12 Academic Year.

We have funds to pay a portion of the expenses associated with the lecture, including honorarium, travel, publicity, reception, etc. The visitors must lecture on a topic related to Asia and/or the Pacific and be relevant to a public audience.  This deadline is for proposals to bring speakers in fall or winter terms of the next academic year.
