Stephen Durrant specializes in Chinese language and literatures, with current research on Sima Qian, Zuo Zhuan and Chinese grammar. His most recent publications include Early China/Ancient Greece: Thinking Through Comparisons, (2002); The Siren and the Sage, (1999); A World of Literature, (1998); The Cloudy Mirror: Tension and Conflict in the Writings of Sima Qian, (1995). Professor Durrant was a visiting professor at the University of Muenster in Germany in 2004 and 2005 and was a distinguished professor at the College of Arts and Sciences in 2003. In 1996 and 1997 he received the NEH Collaborative Research Grant to write Siren and the Sage. Professor Durrant has received two Fulbright-Hays awards and a yearlong grant to do research at the Stanford Center in Taipei.
