Michael Fishlen teaches courses in classical and modern Chinese language and literature, Chinese law, early Chinese poetry, and Tang Poetry. He researches late Tang poetry, Six Dynasties poetry, traditional Chinese law and its relation to literature and culture, sinological methods and bibliography, and early 19th century Indian law. Dr. Fishlen has taught U.S. law and international business law in Xi'an and in Xiamen, China, and worked as a lawyer in Shanghai, China. His publications include a review of Haun Saussy, “The Problem of a Chinese Aesthetic” in The Journal of Asian Studies, (1996); “Wine, Poetry and History” in T'oung Pao, (1994).
