Noriko Fujii specializes in Japanese language and linguistics with research interest in the areas of discourse analysis, discourse and grammar, language change and sociolinguistics. She is also interested in the relationship between linguistics research and Japanese language learning and teaching. Her publications include, Historical Discourse Analysis: Grammatical Subject in Japanese (1991), Aozora : Intermediate – Advanced Japanese Communication (2003), “Learning from learner discourse: Rethinking of grammar instruction” in Japanese Language and Literature (2005), “The occurrence and non-occurrence of object marker o in Japanese conversation” in Studies in Language (2000). Since coming to UO, Dr. Fujii has reorganized the Japanese language program based on proficiency-oriented instruction and developed and expanded the program to one of the most comprehensive programs in the nation, almost doubling its course offerings. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of Japanese language and linguistics.
