Ron Lovinger specializes in design theory, experiential landscape patterns, and planting design with a special interest in the Japanese garden. He is currently working on the Okazaki District in Kyoto, Japan where he is transforming a civic and cultural district into an ensemble of public parks, promenades, and landscape restoration areas. Professor Lovinger published “The Klaussen Garden” in The Secret Gardens of Cambridge in 2005. He is presently studying memorial gardens and monuments as part of his ongoing work on Landscape as Memory. He just returned from Kyoto, Japan where they dedicated the restoration of the Horikawa Canal into a new waterway/promenade with new playgrounds, outdoor theater and places for outdoor markets and extensive plantings. This is a project which was designed in 1996 and recently constructed from drawings created by the Kyoto Study Program.
