Roxann Prazniak specializes in rural China, and Eurasian comparative history with a special interest in Mongol illuminated manuscripts in 13th century Northern Italian art. Her current research focuses on the Chinese landscapes in the Mona Lisa and travel literature in China and Europe. Professor Prazniak edited Places and Politics in an Age of Globalization in partnership with Arif Dirlik, (2001). Professor Prazniak also published Of Camel Kings and Other Things: Rural Rebels Against Modernity in Late Imperial China(1999) and Dialogues Across Civilizations: Sketches in World History from Chinese and European Experiences (1996). Starting in 1979, Prazniak has frequently worked and studied in China (Xinjiang and Dongbei). She also has also spent time in India, Nepal, Europe, and Japan.
