Kyu Ho Youm’s teaching focuses include media law, freedom of the press, journalism, and related topics in Korea and other Asian countries. His research explores U.S. communication law, press freedom theories, legal research methods in mass media, international and comparative law, and digital freedom. Among his recent publications are “South Korea,” in Media, Advertising, and Entertainment Law Throughout the World (forthcoming); "Journalism Law and Regulation," in Handbook of Journalism Studies (2009); "Commercial Speech and Free Expression," Journal of International Media & Entertainment Law (2009); "Freedom of Information in Korea," in The Right to Information (2008); “Liberalizing British Defamation Law,” Communication Law & Policy (2008); “South Korea,” in Speaking Out for Freedom of Expression (2008); “The Right of Reply and Freedom of the Press,” George Washington Law Review (2008). His 1996 book, Press Law in SouthKorea, is still in print. Professor Youm has given lectures in a number of countries including England, Japan, Korean, Mexico Singapore, and Thailand. He serves on the editorial boards of a dozen major law and communication journals in the United States and abroad.
